Highway Flotsam

I guess I’ve been reading way too many of Donna’s posts at Funky Junk Interiors (http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/ ). I’m looking too long at rusty things, beat-up things and curbside things. The scary thing is I can think of all sorts of things I could do with them!

So when I was cruising up the highway the glimpse of a big piece of metal in the ditch made me pull over FAST. (Don’t worry – I did look to see if someone was behind me!) Then I had to back up to check out what I had seen.

Hmmmm… it was a sign of some sort. That made it worth investigating further. So I climbed out of my truck to have a closer look.

Wow! A semi had lost his “Over Size Load” sign. Now how cool is that?! (For me…not for him!) When I lifted it into Little Red I found out it was much larger and heavier than I had first guessed. How big is it? It’s 9 feet long and weighs about 50 pounds!

I have to admit tho; I am not really sure what I am going to do with it. Right now I thinking either use it in the shed as a decoration or try to sell it.

Himself is giving me a ration of grief about it so I have to come up with something fantastic.

Maybe it could go up next to Best Friend’s rat terrier Sasha’s bed…

I wonder what Donna would do with this piece of Funky Junk?

  1. Oh that's funny Teri! I would have no idea what to do with that, but I like the idea you had for the doggie bed decor! ~Lili

  2. Well now, I'm honored you'd mention me in this little venture!

I would distress it and hang it up on the wall somewhere. Or cut a chunk off of it but purposely cut through a letter so only part of it shows (missing letters are cool!) and screw it onto the kitchen island or a piece of furniture or whatever. Just make sure it doesn't say anything 'bad' then. :)

Or cut it up in LOTS of square shaped chunks (up and down, not vertical cuts) and place the pieces back on the wall in a random fashion for a true salvaged look.

This sign would go most anywhere in my home, but not knowing yours... only you would know. Does your hubby have a workshop in the garage? It could be used there too with hooks underneath for all his coveralls/coats whatever. Sky's the limit!

  4. You could always paint it... and then put whatever you choose on it. Or... You could be really funky and make a HUGE road sign out of it marking your driveway as "Last Name Lane". Now grant it, that option would require a really large pole... or two. :-) As Donna said.. the SKY is the limit. It's a great piece of metal... if nothing else scrap it. LOL
