Storm Season

I think nature has April mixed up with March.  "In like a lion"...

'Wet' is coming two ways.  When it is not snowing, there's probably a thunderstorm happening.

We haven't had to go to our storm shelter (tho we have taken Persia down just in case ~ you just don't want to be chasing a cat down when you have to take shelter).

March Moves On

It's finally Spring in Middle Tennessee.  The trillium are one of the first wildflowers here.

However, March came in more like a snow leopard than a lion!  This snowy photo was take on the first day of Spring!  We had two other snow days before this.

But mostly it was wet.  Not as bad as February but we did get over 5.5" of rain for the month.

So March was a fairly quiet month.  We did have our company for a week and that was a lot of fun.  Otherwise, we just went into hyyge mood... get cozy!

Things like needle felting...

... and eating of comfort food (this is some lamb pelmeni I picked up in an Eastern European grocery store).

However March is the start of the most busy time of the year for bonsai.

It's time to repot the deciduous trees and the club had a great demonstration class for this project.

And it is right in the middle of the time to collect scrubby little trees (yamadori) from the wild and the yard.  This little guy is already on his way to being a bonsai thanks to a few years of mower pruning!

(Hmmmm... we both forgot that poison ivy plant might go dormant but the roots never do.  We are both covered up with rash right now.)

Today is Good Friday.  Today is also Passover (at sunset).

It's been a good month.

Nashville Lawn and Garden Show 2018

First weekend in March means Nashville Lawn & Garden Show!

So much to see and so many great ideas.  I love these oversized lanterns; the down light inside of them makes the flowers really pop.  Wouldn't it be a great night feature?

The wire leaf behind the bush is a nice accent.

I'm usually not one for a formal garden but this is quite elegant.

There were displays from funky junk to...

... simple and lovely.

But I think the theme of the show was more "funky junk landscape and gardens".

I mean, can you get much more funky than a cement block wall with an octopus on it?

Or maybe a bit of graffiti in your garden.

A nice display but I wonder how long a tree could stay in that container?

This geodome was a new item this year.

Small gardens in recycled beds was a common theme.

Here are some veggies and herbs in a pallet garden.

And mushrooms growing on old logs.

As always, so much to see!

New

The new babies are arriving.  Isn't she precious?
