Food Truck Meet-Up

On St. Patrick’s Day I went out with Sis, Big J, and the babies.  We did a photo shoot in Forest Park (my first doing toddlers and boy – did I learn a lot!).

For lunch we tried something a little different.  Sis had seen this ad and it sounded good to all of us.   So off we went.

Who: Koken Art Factory is proud to present the first Food Truck Meet Up. This event will feature a variety of different food truck vendors as well as music from your favorite local bands, local brewery tastings with Schlafly and 4 Hands Brewery, cash bar, and free hula-hoop demos and lessons and demonstrations with the St. Louis Hoop Club.

The ChopShopSTL Food truck will be in attendance as well as

Guerrillastreet,

SeoulTaco,

Whereschacha,

TheSweetDivine, and Falafelwich (who was a no show). This is an indoor event and is rain or shine.”

The fun thing about having the different food trucks was we could each have whatever cuisine we wanted.

And I think we each chose a different truck!  (Waaaay back when I was a child, there was a cafeteria in one of the St. Louis malls called “Seven Kitchens”.  Each area represented a different cuisine.  It was a favorite place to eat and probably one of the reasons I love different ethnic foods as an adult.)  Little Bird has a fantastic palate… she’ll eat about anything.

Little Hoss is our picky one.  I never dreamed that picky was inborn.  But even he had things he liked from the food trucks.

Of course… everyone liked these!  From bottom right clockwise:  “Green” Velvet (The Babies), Cherry Garcia (me), Turtle (Sis) and “Pig Out” (Big J).  That is BACON you see on the top of the cupcake.  Yuck!

There were no hula hoop demos, but they did leave a bunch laying around for the kids to play with.  And play The Babies did!

When they were all played out, we headed for home.

Good thing we left when we did…just as the last door slammed on the SUV, the rains came down.

Being the event was the “first  annual” there were things to be learned by the event holders.   The venue was really, really gloomy.  It would have been much better to have the trucks on the street with the tables inside or perhaps some mobile lighting like at construction sites.  Or better… at a different location.  And hopefully at the “second annual” there will be more trucks participating.

Food trucks have finally taken off in St. Louis and a local magazine has been a leader in making that happen.  Last year they started an event called “Food Truck Friday”.  It’s continuing this year.  If you’re interested, here’s the info from “Sauce Magazine”.
